Maury Leyland
Biography
Maury started her career as an engineer, followed by a long stint of corporate life as a strategy consultant. She was a member of the design team for Team New Zealand during the successful 1995 America’s Cup campaign in San Diego. From 2005, she was a senior executive at Fonterra, stepping down as managing director people, culture and strategy in April 2016.
With her husband, John, she has investments in, and is actively involved with, a number of privately held primary sector start-up businesses in areas including plant protein, nutrition and traceability. They have a farming business in North Canterbury that has just completed a hops trial over the last season and is now expanding. They also have a pipfruit trial block and are shareholders in a hops garden on Tapawera.
Maury is on the board of Genesis Energy and The Education Hub, a non-profit organisation focused on bridging the gap between research and practice in school and early childhood education. She was on the Lincoln University Transformation Board. She holds BE (Hons) in Engineering Science from University of Auckland, is a Fellow of the Engineering New Zealand, a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand and a member of Global Women.
